Random Message for a Stranger is a Very Small Exhibition Reunion project. Covid-19 pandemic has hit the world hard and it is during this tough time that we must get together to spread some love.

The original Random Message for a Stranger project started in 2017 by Wei, one of the founders of Very Small Exhibition, as a way to share inspiring messages to the general public with hand-written calligraphic letterings. https://mothership.sg/2017/10/sporean-randomly-leaves-handwritten-calligraphy-notes-all-around-spore-for-strangers/

This time, all three founders of Very Small Exhibition, Andrew, Joanne and Wei, reunite to each design 3 original postcards. Each unique postcard carries encouraging messages for anyone who happen to pick them up at random public places.

These postcards will be placed all around Singapore, one postcard a day, throughout the month of August as we come together to celebrate Singapore’s 56th year of independence. Each of them will be affixed with a local postage stamp. Those who manage to get one can take this opportunity to show their appreciation for a friend or family with their own hand-written message on it and mail them.

To find out where these postcards are going to be placed throughout August 2021, follow Very Small Exhibition on Facebook and Instagram.

POSTCARDS

This series expresses of the warmth of human connection. The things we have taken for granted before the pandemic. I hope these cards will serve as a channel of love to their loved ones that they may not be able to see in person.

Each of these postcards features a Very Momentary Exhibition rainbow light art installation in Singapore. By scanning the QR code on the cover of each card with a mobile phone, viewer can link to either an Instagram Story or Facebook Story filter to reveal a randomised heart warming message through augmented reality.

Click here to try out the effects through your desktop computer; scan the QR code on the screen with your mobile phone to activate the filter.
